Document Assembly
Roland H. Monson president of Monson Consulting Inc. and a Capstone affiliate, has been active in document assembly for over ten years. He has created a wide variety of practice systems, from simple to extremely complex. The larger systems he has developed generate drafts of virtually all the documents needed for such complex transactions as a securities offering, a bank loan agreement secured by real and personal property and guarantees, or a leveraged lease financing.

A 1983 graduate of Harvard Law School, Monson was an associate in the bank lending group at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy for six and a half years. In his last years at Milbank he was put in charge of a project to turn Milbank's model bank lending agreements into an integrated computer application. The project was so successful that the supervising partner quickly abandoned his original plan to maintain a parallel set of models in word processor format. From the time that application first became functional to the present, Milbank has relied on it to create the vast majority of first drafts of documents for its extensive bank lending practice.
Leaving Milbank in 1990, Monson started Monson Consulting Inc. to continue document assembly work as an independent consultant. He continues to work for Milbank, updating the bank lending application and doing a variety of other projects, and does work for other major law firms. His clients have also included corporations, individual practitioners and people who wanted training in developing systems themselves.

Before entering law school, Monson lived in Japan for almost five years, employed for most of that time as a Japanese-to-English translator. A member of the New York bar, Monson moved to Utah in 1994, where he uses e-mail, courier services and airlines to serve clients around the world.
